We provide all the services that are normally provided by Centres de Santé across the province: hospital and CLSC services and long-term care. Over the last 5 years, we have worked hard at trying to make as many of these services available in English, with the help of the MCDC. We have put special emphasis on admission and front desks so that patients are received in English and on home care for English-speaking seniors. We have also translated a lot of material, including an important section of our website. Since the English-speaking population represents only 1% of the overall population we serve, we are not always successful but we try our best.

MCDC is proud to announce the official launch of its new video clip “It feels good to give”. This video clip was done in collaboration with A.S. Johnson High School of Thetford Mines and was made possible through a grant from Fonds régional d’investissement jeunesse Chaudière-Appalaches (FRIJ) as part of the “I volunteer” project that was launched in the spring of 2011.
The purpose of the video clip is to promote volunteerism among the youth. Since September 2011, through the “I volunteer” project, 32 youth from A.S. Johnson High School have actively participated in various volunteering opportunities such as holding sport clinics, collecting non-perishable food items, visiting seniors, helping at the local SPA chapter, and others. “We are so pleased with the results of this initiative and the video clip is a wonderful demonstration of that.
To view the video clip and get the complete story in the Latest News section of our website, follow this link www.mcdc.info .

Networking & socializing
The Québec City Women’s Club has been meeting since 1937. Originally known as the University Women’s Club of Québec, it was formed to meet the social and intellectual needs of its members. These needs varied widely from community and women’s issues, to educational and political concerns.

As our community has continued to grown and change, so has the group. All adult women are welcome and will find a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Yearly dues are $30.00.

The core goal of supporting education for women remains a priority for the club. The annual Book Fair raises enough money to fund bursaries for women seeking higher education.

Our group has an active social program presented on the third Wednesday of each month, where we try to meet the interests put forward by the members.
Charitable organizations
The QCWC is a member organization of the Citadel Foundation (www.citadelfoundation.ca/eng/home.html )
Continuing education
Our major mandate is to support the post secondary education of women in the Québec City Area. To this end we offer bursaries through the Citdel Foundation.
http://www.citadelfoundation.ca/eng/bursaries.html
Volunteering
The QCWC bursaries are funded by the proceeds of our used book sale, which is held annually on the last Saturday of October.

RECAA stands for Ressources Ethnoculturelles Contre l\'Abus envers les Ainés. It is an initiative of community workers, organizations and individuals, mostly retired, from the ethnocultural communities. Our mission is to work towards a culture of respect for our elders with an objective to raise awareness of elder mistreatment within those communities. We do this through PARTICIPATORY THEATRE, acting out scenes non-verbally to promote discussion and problem-solving.

Networking & socializing
From the months of September through to June, seniors meet in the parish hall, they play a game of cards and bingo once a week--mostly Wednesday afternoons--and share fun times and camaraderie. Members also benefit from planned events such as pot luck luncheons, mini bazaars, the occasional outings (a bus trip to the Montérégie for a strawberry festival, or a visit to the Casino de Montreal). The venue is considered the \"hub\" of this English community; however, you will meet several French-speaking neighbours who drop by and participate in this weekly social event.
Pastoral services
The proximity to the church rectory allows the parish priests an opportunity to mingle with those who attend, Father James McDonald, Father Murray McCrory and Sr. Dianna Lieffers regularly offer words of encouragement to anyone in need. Daily Mass is celebrated at Saint Gabriel\'s; the Wednesday Mass begins at 1:00 PM, after which many participants join those already gathered in the hall (large church basement).
Recreation
The Seniors’ Group is mainly recreational, there is no exercise program available at this time. The majority of attendees live within walking distance of the church. Some members are forced to stay at home in inclement weather.
Parish events are regularly updated and posted on the parish website -- www.saintgabrielsparish.com
Cultural communities
Saint Gabriel’s Church, built between 1891 and 1895, is historically linked to the Irish community including the United Irish Societies and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Irish festivities are celebrated including the Mass of Anticipation, one week before the city\'s annual Saint Patrick’s Parade.
The annual walk to the Black Stone on the CNR grounds at Bridge Street commemorates the 6,000 Irish immigrants who died from the ravages of scurvy and typhoid beginning in 1847. Since the dissolution of St. Ann’s Parish in Griffintown, \"St. Gabe\'s\" has become the focal point for the territorial community of Point-St-Charles. The church continues to serve the community of families of Irish descent, including Italian, French, and Ukrainian, and new families from Sri Lanka, Africa, India, the Philippines and Algeria.
Everyone is welcome.
Other services / Additional information
Saint Gabriel\'s stays in contact with any parishioner who is sick/infirm and who may need a friendly visit by the pastoral team. Our newly installed handicap elevator (February 2010) provides access for people with varying abilities, seniors especially.
